ACADEMIC AND BEHAVIORAL REQUIREMENTS
The Hammond Academy for the Performing Arts maintains high standards in both academia and behavior. The programs are
rigorous in nature, and for that reason, in order to be eligible for an audition, students must meet the following requirements:
- The student must have at least a 2.5 cumulative GPA.
- The student must not have more than 10 unexcused absences during the current school year.
- The student must not have an unsatisfactory discipline record.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Who can attend HAPA? HAPA has open enrollment starting the 2015-16 school year, which means HAPA is open to any student in the state of Indiana for free. Currently there are students from all over Hammond and the surrounding communities who attend HAPA.
What is the schedule for HAPA? Not all HAPA students are on the same schedule. Some students may attend from 7:30am-2:30pm, and

Is there transportation to HAPA? Transportation is provided for Hammond students only, from the student’s home school to HAPA by the School City of Hammond. Students are bused in the morning during 1st period, and then are bused back to their home schools after 6th
period. Many HAPA students stay after school for rehearsals and provide their own transportation home. Students outside of Hammond must provide their own transportation to and from school.
Will I be able to graduate on-time and get all required courses? Absolutely! HAPA is housed at Morton High School, where a full
academic course load is offered, including rigorous programs in engineering, Bio-Medical, science as well as AP Courses. Your HAPA courses will fill your elective credits.
Should students apply who have little or no experience? Yes! All students and ability levels are encouraged to apply. HAPA offers courses in novice and advanced levels.
Is there a fee or cost to participate in the program? HAPA is tuition free for Indiana students. There may be specific class supplies (dance shoes, instrumental rental, etc) or extra-curricular fees, but there is no cost to be in the program.
Do I have to already be a Morton student to attend HAPA? No! When accepted into the HAPA, a school transfer will be initiated. Specific information will be communicated upon acceptance into the program.
