Daniel Cummins, HAPA Director
Mr. Cummins is a graduate of the Indiana State University where he completed a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education and Master’s Degree in School Administration. He is an active conductor and trumpet player originally from Hammond, Indiana and enjoys working with young musicians to develop their passion for the arts. As a performer, Mr. Cummins has performed with numerous orchestras including the Columbus Philharmonic Orchestra and South Shore Chamber Orchestra and with prominent artists including Tim Coffman, Mark Colby, Charlie Davis, Dave Stryker, Dave Pietro and Bobby Vinton. In addition to his US appearances, in 2013 Mr. Cummins toured China as a performer in the premier musical, “Rhapsody in Swing.” Returning to China in the summer of 2017, Mr. Cummins, along with faculty and students, studied music and culture at the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing.
As an educator, Mr. Cummins has worked with numerous music programs across the Midwest and the Chicagoland area; instructing marching bands, jazz ensembles and teaching privately. As former HAPA Director of Bands, Mr. Cummins has invested greatly in HAPA and is excited to continue his passion for the arts as HAPA Director. While at the HAPA, Mr. Cummins has been music director for productions including; tick…tick…BOOM, Once On This Island, Working, The Wiz, Cats, Songs for a New World and most recently, Cinderella.
Mr. Cummins is a member of the Indiana Bandmasters Association (IBA) and the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development (ASCD).
Daniel Taube, Acting & Asst. HAPA Director
Mr. Taube has spent the last 22 years teaching, directing, producing and acting in Professional and Educational Theatre. A proud graduate of New York University, Mr. Taube received his BFA in Acting from NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts. While a NYU student he also studied at Playwrights Horizons Theatre School, Circle-in-the-Square Theatre School and apprenticed to Broadway director Michael Parva and his Director’s Company. Also a graduate of DePaul University, Mr. Taube received his MFA in Directing from DePaul University’s The Theatre School.
Professionally, Mr. Taube has been the Artistic Director of two Chicago Theatres, Thunder Road Ensemble and The Village Players Theatre. He has acted, directed and produced in Chicago with Trap Door Theatre, Prop Theatre, Circle Theatre, Chicago Dramatists and Curious Theatre Branch, among many others. As an educator, Mr. Taube started his own Acting Workshop – Chicago Styles Workshop which focused on training the actor in contemporary and classical styles. As well, he has been the head of Directing and a lead teacher at Act One Studios, one of Chicago’s top Acting Studios for working professionals. Mr. Taube also served as adjunct faculty at DePaul University’s The Theatre School where he taught advanced workshops in Rehearsal and Performance.
Here at the HAPA, Mr. Taube teaches acting classes and directs multiple productions each year.
